Background
The Kaladan Multimodal Transit Transport Project (KMTTP) was jointly identified by India and Myanmar to create a multi modal mode of transport for shipment of cargo. KMTTP envisages a waterway trade route from Sittwe Port to Paletwa (158 Kms) along the river Kaladan and road route from Paletwa to India-Myanmar border of 110Kms.

The Ministry of External Affairs, (MEA) Government of India (GoI), has appointed Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) as the Project Development Consultant (PDC), and A to Z EXIM as Management, Operation & Maintenance Operators of Port & IWT Terminal at Sittwe & IWT Terminal at Paletwa under Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project.

2003: DPR on Ports
2005: DPR on Roads
2008: Cabinet Approval

2010: Contract awarded to ESSAR to build, operate and maintain the ports.

FEB 2020: Contract awarded to A to Z EXIM to operate and maintain the ports.

FEB 2022: Contract awarded to Land-Marine to complete balance left over EPC work by ESSAR.

FEB 2022: Contract awarded to Knowledge Marine to dredge river.

JAN 2023:  Dredging and Complete EPC Works.

JAN 2023: Flag OFF and start of operations
